Short answers.
Fees, editions, domains, payments, data and setup. If something is missing, write to us and it lands on this page.
Fees and editions
One plugin, two ways to route payments.
Does WopCart take a cut of my sales?
With the free plugin, yes: 2% of each transaction, retained as a platform fee through Stripe Connect. With WopCart Direct, nothing — your payment provider’s fees are your only transaction cost.
Why does the free plugin route payments through you?
The plugin is GPL, so a fee written into the code could simply be removed. Settling through our Stripe Connect platform is what makes the 2% collectable — and that is why no feature has to be held back.
Is anything locked in the free plugin?
No. No locked features, no limit on products, orders or sites, and no licence key. The add-on changes only how payments are routed and who holds the gateway accounts.
Who is the merchant of record?
You are, in both editions. Charges are created directly on your own connected Stripe account.
What does WopCart Direct cost?
Yearly or one-time, in US dollars: 1 production domain for $50 a year or $80 once, 10 for $99 or $150, 100 for $200 or $280. EU consumers pay VAT on top at checkout. See pricing.
Is it one plugin or two?
Two, and the second one is small. WopCart is the shop; WopCart Direct sits next to it and swaps the payment route. Nothing is replaced, and deactivating the add-on leaves your store running at 2%.
Licences and domains
Only WopCart Direct carries a key.
What counts as a domain?
Each production site where you save the licence key uses one domain slot.
Do staging and local sites count?
No. They use no slot, and up to 3 of them can be active on one key at the same time by default.
How do I move to another domain?
Remove the old domain in your wopcart.com account, or remove the key from that site’s settings, then save the key on the new site.
Can I move to a bigger or smaller size?
Yes. Yearly upgrades take effect immediately with the prorated difference charged at once; lifetime upgrades cost the difference between the two lifetime prices; downgrades of a yearly licence take effect at the next renewal. Changes are not refunded. Details.
Can I get my money back?
Within 14 days of any purchase, yearly or lifetime, in full. The key is revoked and your sites fall back to the 2% routing. After 14 days, purchases are not refunded.
What if the licence lapses, or wopcart.com is down?
Your own gateways keep charging; only add-on updates stop. And while wopcart.com cannot be reached, a licensed site keeps its licence for up to 14 days, so an outage on our side never puts a fee back on your sales.
Payments and products
Which gateways can I use?
Stripe and Apple Pay with the free plugin. With WopCart Direct, your own accounts for Stripe, PayPal, Mollie, Authorize.net, 2Checkout and Apple Pay. The others need your own credentials because they offer no way to collect a platform fee.
Does Apple Pay need anything special?
HTTPS, and the domain registered with Stripe once. There is a button for that under Settings → Payments.
Can I sell physical products?
Yes. Weight and dimensions, stock with backorders and low-stock alerts, reservations during checkout, shipping zones by country and US state, flat, free-over and weight-based rates, VAT on shipping, and fulfilment with tracking and a “shipped” email. Carrier integrations for DHL, UPS and FedEx are still on the roadmap.
Can I test without real payments?
Yes. Test mode routes every gateway to its sandbox, and nothing is charged.
Subscriptions, bundles, quotes?
All included: recurring options with trials and charge limits, bundles, product variants, discounts and bulk coupons, quotes, manual invoices with payment links, memberships and paywalls.
Does it work with my SEO plugin?
Yoast SEO, Rank Math, All in One SEO and the Seooptimierung Toolkit are detected. WopCart adds its product, review and paywall markup to that plugin’s own schema graph instead of printing a second one, and keeps cart, checkout and account pages out of search results and sitemaps.
Data and privacy
What leaves your site, and what happens when you leave.
- Stripe, or your own gateway with WopCart Direct, at the moment of purchase.
- ipapi.co, to get a country from the buyer’s IP address, when EU VAT is enabled.
- VIES, the European Commission’s service, when a buyer enters a VAT number.
- An exchange rate provider when multi-currency is enabled, without personal data.
- Anthropic’s Claude API, only if you turn on AI recommendations, and only with catalogue and cart data.
- wopcart.com, only if WopCart Direct is installed: the site address, the licence key and the plugin version, about twice a day. Nothing about your customers or sales.
WopCart registers data export and erasure handlers with WordPress’s own privacy tools. An erasure anonymises personal data while keeping the financial records tax law requires you to retain. It also suggests privacy policy text for the services you switch on, which you should read before publishing.
Uninstalling removes nothing unless you ask: data removal is off by default, under Settings → Advanced. Files you sold are never deleted.
- WordPress 6.4 or later, PHP 8.1 or later, and HTTPS for Apple Pay.
- Copy any file from the plugin’s
templates/folder intoyourtheme/wopcart/and it takes precedence. The storefront uses--wopcart-*custom properties, so most restyling needs only a variable. - 8 Elementor widgets, 7 blocks with shortcodes, Divi modules and Bricks elements, plus WPML and Polylang.
